"It has definitely paid off, trust me," Cameron assured him. Gabriel seemed to be doing pretty well and even though there were bound to be some things that he still didn't understand, it wouldn't be as noticeable anyway. As Gabriel said he would be a bad teacher for him, Cameron couldn't help but laugh. "Probably but at least we could be confused together," he chuckled. He came across everything in his line of work including rowdy teenagers who were impossible to understand. He had tried to get his head around what they were saying at first before eventually realising that it was futile and giving up. It just wasn't worth it sometimes. Cameron's offer to listen was a genuine one and his expression softened as Gabriel said it was his burden to carry and he didn't want to just dump it on him like that. "You wouldn't be dumping it on me, I offered to listen," he said gently. "Besides, it might be your burden to carry but that doesn't mean that you can't share the load," he added. It was clear that there was something really bothering Gabriel and if he didn't feel like he could talk to his brothers then Cameron knew that he wanted the guy to know that he could talk to him about it. He meant it when he said that it wouldn't scare him off, he liked being around Gabriel and he was sure that nothing was going to change his mind about that. Besides, Cameron had his own demons anyway and he knew that if he told Gabriel about his past then it might scare him off so they were probably equally matched in that respect. The file Cameron had managed to get his hands on didn't contain much information about Daniel but he knew that it wasn't going to be as much a priority for the missing person's department as the cases they had of people who had gone missing more recently. There always seemed to be disappearances going on around Forks and he was pretty sure that it wasn't going to change any time soon but that didn't mean that he couldn't look into Daniel's disappearance on their behalf. He started making notes as Gabriel explained what had brought him to Forks and he nodded. "Did he tell you where he saw Daniel? How long ago was this?" he asked, knowing that the first question might give him an idea of where to start looking at least. "It's possible that they did. They don't normally hand their CCTV footage out to just anyone but depending on where it is I might be able to call in a favour rather than having to wait while it goes through the proper channels of getting a warrant."As Gabriel said that kids had to take something from their moms, Cameron felt a smile form on his face. "You're right about that," he grinned. If her mom was anything to go by then Cameron knew that he was going to have his hands full when Lucy got older but he was already trying to prepare himself for that. "I like to think you're right but I know she's going to have questions about her mom as she grows up and I'm not sure how to answer them," Cameron admitted. That was something that had been weighing on his mind a lot lately, Lucy and him and Alex looking out for her but she didn't have any female role models in her life and he had seen the way she looked at some of her friends' moms from time to time. His ex was going to miss out on so much but so was Lucy and that was enough to make his heart ache. "I never want her to feel like she isn't wanted. Her mom didn't want to be a parent but I loved her from the first moment I saw her," he breathed. If he had to put the blame on himself and tell her that his relationship with her mom didn't work out and that's why she wasn't around then so be it, he would do just about anything to save his daughter from the pain of the truth. "I'm trying. She's already starting to turn into her own little person and it's incredible to watch. I never knew it could be like this," Cameron admitted. His mom had been a mess after his dad died and she hadn't really paid too much attention to him and Alex other than to tell them what they were doing wrong a lot of the time. He was determined to be a better parent for Lucy. "There are times when she tries bossing me and Alex around and she seems to be shooting up all the time," he nodded. "I still worry about her though, she's going to be like me when she gets older and I don't want her to go through anything that I did," he added before clearing his throat as Gabriel asked if he was keeping him from anything. "I think my partner is about done so I'll go and have a chat with the guy. I'll be back in a bit," he said, getting up from his seat and patting Gabriel's shoulder before going to do just that. Gabriel felt a small smile tug at the corner of his lips at Cameron's words. It was definitely a nice stroke to his ego to know that he was doing well blending in with humans. He stuck out like a sore thumb back then, but thankfully their imagination could never bring them to think that he wasn't human, they just thought he was a little odd and one woman actually tried to ask him out because of it, thinking that his "act" was too cute. Her words, not his. "I wouldn't mind being a little lost with someone." Gabriel offered back with a gentleness to the tone of his voice as he spoke.
If Gabriel's silence meant one thing, it was that he was considering it. He was silent for a few moments, weighing the pros and cons of telling Cameron before he eventually nodded his head. "Yeah, I guess you're right about that." It wasn't an outright denial of Cameron's outreached hand. It was a promise that he will try to share the load of it all.
Gabriel nodded his head at Cameron's question. "The street opposite of the coffee shop. It's actually one of the reasons I work there now. Just in case he passes by again. I'd say this was a month ago." Gabriel replied and soon enough, he was remembering just how emotional and demanding he'd been that day and his broken English probably made the matter much worse and made him look even more uninviting. "Okay." Gabriel nodded his head a few times. "The barber's shop is the one with the best view of the area." He added and he was one of the people who refused to give him anything, saying something about the camera being in a bad condition. Let's just say that Gabriel had to be pulled away from getting up in the barber's personal space, spewing demands and curses in Spanish. It was not at all his proudest moments, but desperation makes you do some stupid shit that you aren't proud of.
Gabriel didn't doubt that Lucy would have questions about her mom. "She'll have questions. She'll see other kids getting picked up by their moms and wonder about hers, but, in my opinion, being honest without outright hurting her feelings might be the way to go about this because building a home on a foundation of lies is just... a ticking time bomb. She will find out sooner or later. Nothing ever stays hidden. I'm sure that when the time comes for you and her to have that talk, you'll know what to say." Gabriel didn't know he was capable of being this talkative, but it didn't feel exhausting, at least.
Talking to Cameron felt easy.
Gabriel felt a small smile tug at the corner of his lips as he continued listening to Cameron talk about his daughter. It was a tender thing to witness. He could tell just how much Cameron loved his little girl. "I get that." Gabriel nodded his head when he said that it was incredible to watch her turn into her little person. "Oh, wow." Gabriel let out a brief chuckle at the mention of Lucy bossing him and Alex around. "If she is anything like you, then she won't go through it alone. You and her uncle will be right there for her and it helps. Trust me." Gabriel shifted alone for the first time and it was one of the hardest things that had ever happened to him. He looked over at Cameron's partner before looking back at him and nodding his head. "Alright." Gabriel leaned back on his seat and looked back down at the file, his son's name staring right back at him. He let out a quiet sigh before he picked it up and started flipping through the pages to keep himself busy while he waited for Cameron.

Cameron knew all too well what it was like to have to try and blend in with society after being away from it for so long but he'd at least had previous experience with it unlike Gabriel. Cameron couldn't even begin to imagine how difficult that must have been for him but he seemed to be doing really well now and Cameron was happy for him. It was too easy for people to take things like that for granted when not everyone was fortunate enough to have had the same kind of upbringing. He knew that most people had their own struggles underneath the surface but it was still much easier for some than it was for others. It had taken Cameron a long time to realise that it was possible to be raised a different way and he was doing his best to make sure that his daughter had a normal life as opposed to the kind of life he'd had after his dad died. He knew that he wanted so much better for his daughter and he really wouldn't wish that on anyone. Gabriel's upbringing had been different but it made it even more difficult for hinm to adjust and the truth was that Cameron admired him for making it this far. As Gabriel said that he wouldn't mind having someone to be lost with, Cameron was more than a little surprised at the gentleness in the other man's voice but it was enough to bring a smile to his lips. "Then I'm your guy," he said, his gaze meeting Gabriel's levelly. "We can be a little lost together."Considering he had expected Gabriel to say again that whatever had happened in the past was his burden to bear, the silence that came from Cameron's offer was a welcome surprise and it was something that Cameron hoped was a good sign. There were things that he was keeping to himself as well and he knew that bottling it up wasn't healthy but Gabriel seemed to be really struggling with this and Cameron knew that if the guy didn't feel like he could turn to his brothers about it then he definitely deserved to have someone that he could talk to and hopefully share the load with. A smile touched Cameron's lips as Gabriel spoke again and he nodded. "No pressure, I'm not going anywhere," Cameron assured him, knowing that he wanted to make sure Gabriel knew that there wasn't a deadline on the offer. He really wasn't going anywhere so even if it took months for Gabriel to feel like he was ready to talk about it, Cameron knew that he would still listen regardless. The fact that Gabriel was even considering it really was more than enough. "That makes sense, I wondered why you picked there of all places to work," Cameron admitted. It had seemed like a pretty random choice but now it definitely made sense. As Gabriel said the barber shop CCTV had the best view of the street, Cameron nodded. "I know the owner, I helped him out a while back. His system isn't the clearest but it keeps footage for at least three months so I'll have a word with him and get a hold of it. Hopefully it will show something that might be useful in finding Daniel." The siting of him hadn't been that long ago at least so that was definitely a good thing. Cameron knew there was a chance that Gabriel's friend might have been mistaken and it might have been a different kid entirely but he refused to think like that for Gabriel's sake. The man needed to find his son and Cameron was going to do his best to help him do just that. As Gabriel said that Lucy would have questions when seeing other kids being picked up by their moms, Cameron nodded. "I think she's already starting to. She'll come back from a sleepover and tell me about all the fun she had with her friend and their mom and I've seen the way she looks at the moms who do the school run sometims," Cameron admitted. He knew that sooner or later he was going to have to sit Lucy down so they could have a talk and he could try and answer her questions but at the same time there was a part of him that was always going to worry that she was going to get hurt. She was his little girl and he knew that he would do everything he could in order to protect her. "I hope you're right," he nodded as Gabriel said he was sure he would know what to say when the time was right. "The thing I hate the most is that she isn't going to have the same experiences with her mom growing up that her friends are. She'll have to make do with me trying to be both parents." Cameron knew there was a chance that Lucy's mom might wake up one day and realise she'd made a huge mistake by cutting herself out of her daughter's life but in all the years since Lucy had been left with him her mom hadn't even reached out to see whether Cameron had decided to keep her after all. He'd tried sending her photos over the years so she could have something of Lucy while she was growing up but each envelope had been returned to him unopened. Lucy's mom still wasn't interested in being a parent so Cameeron was doing the best he could to fill that void. "You're a great person to talk to, you know," Cameron added with a smile. He hadn't expected Gabriel to actually care about his life but it was clear from the way he had talked a moment ago that he did and that meant a lot to Cameron. "She's growing up far too fast," Cameron chuckled. There were times when he found himself wishing that Lucy would stay his little girl forever but he knew that wasn't going to happen. Before he knew it she would be entering her teenage years and then she probably wouldn't want him around as much but for the time being the two of them were close and he knew that he wanted it to stay that way for as long as possible. "She'd probably try it with you too if given the chance," he grinned, knowing that he really wouldn't put it past his daughter. He knew that it might take Lucy a little time to feel comfortable enough around Gabriel to do that but he didn't doubt that she would sooner or later. As Gabriel said that if Lucy was like him then she wouldn't go through it alone, Cameron shook his head. "I was born this way and according to Nick that means that I've definitely passed it on," he shrugged. "Alex isn't like me, he was human until he was bitten. Our dad was the Child of the Moon in the family but he died when we were young so when I first shifted I went through it alone. I don't want that for Lucy if anything happens to both of us," he explained. That was why being a part of a pack was so important, it would give Lucy some security if anything happened to him and Alex and they couldn't be there to help her when she shifted. Cameron had hated going through it all on his own and he knew that he had to make sure that it was different for her. Making sure that his daughter had a better life than the one he'd had was all that mattered to him. Cameron wasn't gone for long before he returned with some news for Gabriel. "I've spoken to the other guy and while he's spewing a lot of nonsense, he doesn't seem to remember much about the altercation so he's just going to sleep it off in the cell and we'll release him in the morning just like we always do," he explained as he looked over at Gabriel. "The CCTV also supports what you told me so as long as the owner doesn't want to press charges you'll be free to go."GABRIEL ARSENIO DE LA CRUZ

Gabriel felt a small smile tug at the corner of his lips at Cameron's words. "I'd like that." He said after a couple of moments of silence. Who knew that it was possible for the guy who would do anything to avoid Cameron to not at all mind spending time with him like this? He remembers one of his not so great moments where he left to grab something from the back only to never return, staying holed up in there to avoid Cameron but then he got an earful from his co-worker who dealt with the rush hour all by themselves. It was something that he wasn't going to repeat again because even thinking back on it made him cringe a little.
Opening up was a real difficult thing for Gabriel to do because he had adapted that mindset of "I'm the oldest, I'm supposed to carry all of this on my own" instead of thinking that it was okay to split all that heavy weight between him and his siblings, or now, between him and his friend. "I'll—"[ Gabriel licked his bottom lip with a hint of nervousness in the tone of his voice. "I'll try." Gabriel said instead, knowing that it was better than an outright no, right? It was progress.
"It started as a desperate attempt to be there in case Daniel showed up, but then it became a distraction for me." That coffee shop was what he needed to keep his mind busy. He was quiet as he listened to Cameron before nodding his head a few times. "Okay. Let me know if you find anything. Please." It was something, at least. Which was more than he had in such a long time. So, he hung onto that hope because that was all he had right now when it came to finding Daniel.
Gabriel was quiet as he listened to Cameron, offering him a small sympathetic smile. "It can't be helped. She's growing older, she's starting to understand the world around her." Gabriel rubbed over his knuckles as he spoke, his shoulders lifting and dropping in a quick shrug. "What matters is how you answer those questions." He added a moment later. He nodded his head in a sympathetic manner because he knew what it would feel like for her to not have a mother figure while her friends did. "You're doing your best with the hand you're dealt, Cameron." Gabriel's accent was still a bit heavy as he spoke. That accent that gave away that English wasn't his first language and he wasn't from around here. It made him stand out in a way that he wasn't exactly comfortable with, but he knew that he can't change that overnight. Gabriel tilted his head slightly at Cameron's words about him being a great listener. "I am?' He asked almost as if he didn't believe that Cameron would say that about him of all people when he must be one of the most boring people to talk to.
"Yeah, kids tend to do that." Gabriel said with a small smile tugging at the corner of his lips as he thought back to all the fond memories that he had of Daniel. "Oh, well, she can be my guest." Gabriel wasn't exactly going to complain about something like that and if his softened expression meant anything, it showed that he found it endearing. Gabriel was quiet as he listened to the information that Cameron told him about his family. "I get that. That fear you have. If anything happens, my brothers and I will be there to help her if you can't. She won't go through it alone, not when she has you, Cameron."
Gabriel occupied himself with the file until he heard Cameron come back and that was when he placed it down to look at him. "Okay. Got it. Thank you, Cameron." Gabriel said with obvious gratitude hanging onto his words as he spoke. "I'll wait. It's no big deal. Enrique should be here soon anyway."
