Paper Grading [Open]

It was a beautiful Saturday evening and Mele found herself in the living room of the family home grading summer school tests. Typically the elementary school summer school was actually pretty fun but for those that were failing school normally they were given actual work in order to be moved forward. So that is what Mele found herself doing at this moment. She sat listening to some music as she graded the test. Mele was also humming along to the music that was playing. She knew there were others in the house but she wasn’t paying much mind so she continued grading the papers on her lap desk.

Mele’s red pen skillfully skirted across the papers and though she could have long finished this but she enjoyed making it last as long as she could. Sitting there she just let her mind wander as a small piece of her brain concentrated on grading the papers that were in her lap. A lot of people thought her weird because of the job she chose but she really did love it. Plus she loved children and this was her way of having children since her own and been ripped from her so violently.

Julia sighed as she stepped into the house with four bags grasped in one hand and another three hanging off the other arm which currently held her house key. There were still another few bags in her car from the shopping trip that she had opted to take into Seattle which had resulted in her leaving early the previous day and spending the night at one of the local hotels. It wasn't that Julia actually needed it for sleep but she did need a place to shower and to keep her things. Summer was almost over and although she hadn't bought an entirely new wardrobe for the upcoming school year. She had had bought a good amount of clothing along with new school supplies. She knew she could have used her supplies from the previous year but Julia liked starting each year fresh so she'd donated her old backpack, binders, pencil cases and everything else from the year before to a second hand store in Seattle.

When Julia spotted Mele in the living room with papers spread out in front of her, the young shifter grinned and pushed up on her sunglasses so that they were resting on top of her head as held up her bags and laughing said: "You missed one hell of a shopping trip Mele. I told you that you shouldn't have bothered teaching summer school. The sun didn't peak out once the whole time I was in Seattle, so it would have been perfect if you could have left with me yesterday instead of having to teach."

Julia knew that traditionally speaking, her ancestors weren't supposed to be friends with vampires but considering the fact that they also couldn't exactly fight who they imprinted on, Julia and her brother had been forced to join the vampire family when their father had imprinted on Grace. Although it had been a bit weird for her at the beginning, Julia now couldn't imagine her life without her family. She was close to all the Platt's and Mele was like an older sister for the shifter.

Setting her bags down next to the couch, Julia flopped back on it and let out an exaggerated sigh as she looked over the papers in front of Mele. "Wow Mele! I don't know how you could turn down a carefree summer vacation to teach. I'm betting the kids don't even want to be there. I know I don't that's why I never enroll in summer school classes."

After some time, Mele was nearly finished and was now straightening a stack of tests and placing them in her folders. When she heard the door she was instantly hit with the tale tell scent of shifter and a smile graced her lips as she recognized it as Julie. When the shifter family had joined the Platt's Mele had been with the family for some time but she had a history with shifters and children of the moon and as such she didn't mind them. Although they had been hesitant of her and the others at first but eventually they warmed up to them and became a true family. Julie had been one that Mele had felt like a younger sister and so she 'took her under her wing' in a way.

Hearing the shifter enter the living room and speak to her, Mele looked up and laughed lightly. "Well It's Saturday and summer school is nearly finished. We only have a week and a half left. We can go on a trip to California or something if you'd like."she said setting her pen on the lap desk and looking at her. She glanced to all the bags that the female had and couldn't help the laugh that escaped her lips. "What all did you get?"she asked curiously. Mele's gazed returned to the last two tests and she quickly graded them before placing them back in the folder and closing her pen and moving the lap desk to the side. She reached for the remote and turned the music down. Though it didnt really matter. Both woman had great hearing and the music wouldn't disturb them.

"I think I bought out the city." Julie responded with a laugh as she glanced back over at her bags that were now resting beside the couch and waiting for her to take them up to her room. Shaking her head gently from side to side, Julie turned her attention once again to Mele before grinning and saying: "There's more bags in the truck. It was just awkward trying to carry all those bags in at once so I opted to leave them outside. I'll go get them later today or bring them down the next time I have to go somewhere. They're not vital so I'm okay with them sitting in the backseat for now."

Unlike a lot of girls her age who were asking for cute little sports cars or luxury cars, Julie had asked her father for a truck. Yes she knew theoretically she could run out into the woods whenever she wanted to but Julie taking her truck off road with whatever gear she needed was luxury to Julie. While other girls considered going out to a spa for the weekend a luxury trip, Julie's idea of a luxury trip was packing up her truck and heading deep into the woods to camp. The fact that she didn't have to pack up a backpack and carry all her equipment in was the very definition of luxury for the shifter.

"I'm all for a trip down to California. We can head down to Los Angeles or San Diego for a week and on our way up we can stop in Yosemite for the weekend!" Julie said excitedly. She had no idea if she'd be able to get a campsite at Yosemite so late in the year since they were usually scooped up really quick but worse came to worse she'd get a room in one of the hotels.
