Children of the Moon
Children of the Moon are the true werewolves of myths and legends and can be either born or bitten. Born Children of the Moon change naturally for the first time after they reach full maturity, usually between the age of 16 and 21 years old. They change form fully into large wolves that are similar in appearance to phased Quileute shifters only at night and only when the moon is full however they can half-shift (teeth, claws, facial hair, more animalistic appearance and glowing eyes) at any time. Unlike shapeshifters, Children of the Moon experience pain when they first change although this lessens with time and can eventually become barely noticeable. Children of the Moon, regardless of whether they are born or bitten, continue ageing normally until their late twenties at which time they stop ageing but they continue transforming with each full moon. Over time when Children of the Moon are able to gain more control over themselves and they can decide to start the ageing process again if they want to but even if they do so they will continue changing with every full moon until they reach old age.
While in their wolf form Children of the Moon lose their human consciousness and become completely feral unless they have an anchor tying them to their humanity during the full moon. This is usually in the form of someone they love although some Children of the Moon have been known to eventually learn to become their own anchors. Most Children of the Moon prefer to be a part of a pack rather than be on their own as they are always strongest when they are together and as a part of a pack they are able to form a telepathic link to one another just like shapeshifters. They are able to learn to block out the thoughts of others and can block their thoughts from other members of the pack if they want to and the link doesn't always work if they aren't in close proximity to each other. Both bitten and born Children of the Moon can only reproduce while in their human forms. For those who were born Children of the Moon, any children they have are certain to carry the gene however when a human is bitten there is a fifty-fifty chance that any children they have may become like them. While in their wolf forms or half shifted an Alpha can also bite humans and create more of their own kind but other Children of the Moon cannot which has made it more difficult for the species to rebuild. A Child of the Moon can only become an Alpha by killing an Alpha and taking their power.
While in their animal form, Children of the Moon have heightened strength and speed as well as accelerated healing and enhanced senses although silver is their weakness. They also have the same abilities while in their human form although not quite to the same extent. A born Child of the Moon will not have any of their abilities until after they have experienced their first full moon transformation whereas a bitten Child of the Moon will heal from the bite beforehand. There is no way for a born Child of the Moon to know when their first transformation will come and there is no set reason for when it starts, it differs from one person to another while bitten Children of the Moon will always transform for the first time during the full moon after they are bitten.
Children of the Moon are immune to vampire venom and one of these creatures alone can destroy a lone vampire meaning that they are both faster and stronger than Quileute shapeshifters during the full moon. Their bite is lethal to vampires and just one bite is enough to poison a vampire. Once the poison is in a vampire's bloodstream it means certain death for the vampire, there is no cure and it leads to a slow and painful death for the vampire. The vampire will slowly start to lose control of their bloodlust and they will begin to hallucinate with some even attacking those closest to them in their delirium before finally succumbing to the poison. This is the reason why they have been hunted to near extinction. Children of the Moon are very rare and often have to fly under the radar to avoid being hunted themselves.
Humans
Most are completely unremarkable but now and then there seem to be humans who stand out more than the others. Some have been known to have powers before becoming a vampire, like Bella, and have been known to use those to their advantage. Humans are often seen as fragile by other species and can get hurt easily but their strength of will and desire to survive is often next to none. Humans are able to reproduce with all of the other species.
Hybrids
A human-vampire hybrid is the offspring of a female human and a male vampire. Most vampires can't stand being so close to a human let alone become intimate with one but in rare cases it has been known for a male vampire to control himself long enough for a child to be conceived. Hybrids are extremely rare and they share both human and vampire traits. They are immensely beautiful and are often mistaken as immortal children but there are subtle differences. They have well developed physiques and smooth, flawless skin which is pale however not as pale as that of a vampire.
Unlike vampires, hybrids have a functioning heart which pumps blood through their veins. Their hearts beat faster than those of humans and they can feed on both human food and blood although they are often known to prefer blood. Hybrids are capable of sleeping like humans and their body temperatures are just a few degrees below that of a shapeshifter. A hybrid's skin shows a weak illumination in sunlight rather than sparkling like diamonds like a vampire's skin and this allows them to blend in much easier even while it is sunny. It was originally thought that hybrids might not be able to reproduce however this is not the case and once they have reached full maturity they can reproduce normally. Hybrids age rapidly and reach full maturity around seven years after they were born.
Any OC hybrids must be under 250 years old for the time being unless you clear it with a member of staff first.
Quileute Shapeshifters
Shapeshifters are often mistaken as werewolves however shifters are able to phase whenever they wish to. They are descended from the ancient spirit warriors of the Quileute tribe and have the ability to stop the ageing process if they wish. Shapeshifters are able to communicate with other pack members telepathically and they are both stronger and faster while in their wolf forms. For years after the Cullens left the amount of shapeshifters in the area was minimal but the return of the Cullens as well as the presence of the Volturi on the reservation has meant that there are now more shapeshifters than ever. It was originally thought that female shapeshifters were unable to reproduce however this was disproved when Claire Ateara shocked everyone, including herself, by conceiving a child.
Shapeshifters
Members of the Quileute tribe are not the only shapeshifters in the world, other cultures have been known to have their own variety of shapeshifters including those who can turn into coyotes and jaguars. Like the Quileute shifters, any who are a part of a pack have a telepathic link and they can phase at will. The shapeshifting gene is passed on from one generation to another however it is not always clear how the first shapeshifters in an area came to be.
Tribrids
Tribrids are incredibly rare however they come into being through the union between a hybrid and a shifter or Child of the Moon. So far the only known tribrids are the children of Jacob Black and Renesmee Cullen but there may be a few more out there in the world somewhere. Tribrids are able to phase at will into very large animals however they need a combination of both blood and human food in order to survive. They are able to form a telepathic link between each other while in a pack but not with any other shapeshifters or Children of the Moon. Tribrids age rapidly and reach full maturity around seven years after they were born. They are also capable of reproducing.
Vampires
Vampires are immortal beings known for feeding on the blood of humans or animals. Vampires are stronger and faster than humans and their skin is ice cold. They are impossibly beautiful and both their scent and appearance are designed to lure humans to them. The eyes of vampires who feed on human blood as well as the eyes of newborn vampires are red while the eyes of vampires who feed on animals take on a golden colour. A vampire's skin is like diamonds and sparkles as such in direct sunlight making it difficult to blend in in most places. Male vampires have been able to reproduce with humans in the past however so far female vampires have been unable to conceive children.
Any OC vampires must be under 550 years old for the time being unless you clear it with a member of staff first.
