Romantic Getaway

It had been a couple months since admitting his feelings to Talia. Since then they had been courting or as Talia called it, dating. Due to the differences in the eras, they have compromised and as such Marcus has a special trip planned for them. He wishes to take her to his home country on the Volturi's private jet. He was using the excuse of collecting things from his room in Volterra so as to protect Talia. When the jet landed he wisked her away to the castle secretly having made sure none of the guard were around or able to scent her. It was elaborate but he needed to make it safe for her. After showing her the safe places in the castle he had every intention of taking her somewhere safe so they could spend this trip together without being caught.

Talia had been through so much over the course of her life so far but one thing that she had never done was leave the States. She had always wanted to see more of what the world had to offer but at the end of the day it hadn’t been on the cards for her until now. Talia had been on her own for such a long time and she’d found ways to get by before finally deciding that it was time to start rebuilding her life and start a career for herself and since then she had been working hard to support herself but she hadn’t had the time or money to do anything too adventurous. That was something that she had always regretted and she would be lying if she said that she didn’t feel bad that everything that was happening had been put in place by Marcus but he had wanted to show her the place that he called home and if she was honest she wanted to see it so she knew that it was just one of those things. There was a lot that they had yet to figure out and Talia knew that she still had a lot to teach Marcus about the way the world was now but she would be lying if she said that she didn’t see a future for the two of them and going away together seemed like a great idea.

She would be lying if she said that she wasn’t still a little nervous, though. Marcus and Caius had both made it clear to her that Aro couldn’t find out who she was to either of them, at least not yet, and she wouldn’t be surprised if the same went for the rest of the Volturi as well. Going right into the lion’s den was going to be risky but she trusted Marcus and she knew that she just had to believe that he wouldn’t let anything happen while they were there. He had looked out for her throughout her whole life so far and they were in love so she knew that she wasn’t going to let him lose someone else that he loved the same way that he had lost his wife before. Marcus was being so careful and as they reached the castle, Talia felt a smile work its way across her face. “Marcus, this is incredible,” she admitted as he showed her around. The building itself was beautiful but the fact that Marcus lived there was astounding to say the least. “Thank you for deciding to share this with me, I know it can’t have been easy for you.”

Marcus looked down at Talia and gave her a smile as he pulled her into his arms and gave her a light kiss on the tip of her nose. He wanted to spend as much time with her as he could. Marcus wouldn’t dare ask for her to join him in this never-ending life. He wanted it to be her choice and he wouldn’t dare ask that of her. But he wanted to enjoy this time with her. Marcus was putting everything he could into making sure no one would find her or hurt her. He planned to protect her with his own life. No one dared to go against him because of his position but that didn’t stop people from hurting them. He’d lost his first wife when their love was young. He downright refused to lose Talia.



As he held her in his arms and pulled her close, Marcus just wanted to stay like this in their perfect little world forever. ”I am so pleased to hear you say that.”he said as they stood there enjoying the peace. ”I cannot imagine sharing this with anyone else. I am glad that it is with you, my love.”he said as he held her in his arms. He loved Talia and he would do anything to be with her. He wanted them to be together properly without worry of what others would do. He knew Caius wanted to protect her just as much as himself since she is a descendant of his family. Marcus knew that Aro wouldn’t support this relationship. He knew that his ‘brother’ would want her dead or forcibly turned and he didn’t want that. ”Is there anything in particular you would like to see while we are here?”

The last few months had been amazing as far as Talia was concerned. She had dated before but she had never been in love and she was certain that that was what she felt towards Marcus. He had been the one to say those three little words that held so much meaning first and things had grown from there. She had become accustomed to curling up next to Marcus when she went to sleep at night but so far all they had done was sleep. Talia knew what she wanted, she wanted to have a normal relationship with Marcus and everything that came with it but she knew that Marcus wasn’t normal, he was a vampire. Things weren’t as easy for him and she knew that she had to respect that and take it at a pace that he was comfortable with but that didn’t mean that she didn’t want more and she hoped that sooner or later he would feel comfortable enough with her to try.

Talia didn’t doubt his commitment to her, though. He had brought her to Volterra so that she could see his home and that meant the world to her. He had been honest with her from the start and she knew that she needed to be careful while they were there given that Aro couldn’t find out about her but she wasn’t worried about that right now. She wanted to enjoy spending some time with Marcus in a place where he truly felt comfortable. She would be lying if she said that she hadn’t thought about becoming a part of his world by asking him to turn her but there were a few things that she wanted to do first and seeing some of the places that meant the most to Marcus was definitely high on that list. “That means more to me than you’ll ever know,” Talia said, a smile forming on her face as she looked over at him. She had been on her own for such a long time but now she had Marcus in her life and she had Caius as well so she knew that she truly was lucky. As he asked if there was anything in particular that she would like to see, Talia’s expression turned thoughtful for a moment. “I would love to take a walk around the city tonight,” she admitted. Marcus had already shown her some of the places around the castle but there was still more to see so she had a feeling that there was plenty that they could do to stay busy until night fell and it was safe for Marcus to go outside. “What would you like to do until then?” she asked, not sure if he had anything in mind.

Watching the face of the woman in his arms, Marcus knew that everything would work out the way it was meant to as long as she was safe. He did need to be careful as Jane, Aro’s personal pet, remained in this castle to care for the Italian sector of the guard. Lucky for them she was away on a mission or something. Marcus had been careful to plan for every foresight in hopes of protecting the woman he loved. At the mention of taking a walk around the city, Marcus gave a nod in reply before reluctantly releasing his arms from around her and escorting her throughout the castle. ”To be honest, there are many things we can do until dusk. Though there is one thing in particular I would like to show you.” The Volterra King lead the young woman to a part of the castle that was never frequented by the kings though Marcus use to come here many times millennia ago.

Leading her to one of the many towers, Marcus opened the door to reveal an exquisite garden. It wasn’t large but intimate and well taken care of despite the infrequent visitors. Showing this to someone was something Marcus never expected from himself, but Talia meant the world to him and he wanted to show her everything. ”I have not visited this place in such a long time. It has not changed much. Still as beautiful as the last time I was here. I used to come here when I needed space from my brothers and duties as a king. Gardening is quite relaxing when have nothing else to do.” It was probably a bit cliché as well as unexpected for a king to garden but it helped him with his depression for a long time and so it was healthy for his mental state. Or at least that is how he felt.

Talia wasn’t used to having someone in her life that she trusted completely but she had found that in Marcus. He had been honest with her about what he was right from the start and he had never lied to her about the danger that being around him posed. He had let her make her own decision but the truth was that she never would have sent him away anyway. Aside from Caius he was the only person who had shown her kindness in her life when she hadn’t had anyone else, not to mention he had saved her life more times than she cared to admit. It didn’t matter to her that being around him was risky, she had fallen in love with Marcus and she knew that it was worth it. She had no idea what her future was going to hold but she knew that she wanted him to be a part of it and considering that he had gone to the trouble of showing her the place that he had called home for such a long time she was pretty sure that that was what he wanted as well.

Taking Marcus’ hand in hers as they made their way through the castle, Talia felt a smile form on her face as he said that there was something in particular that he wanted to show her. “Really? What’s that?” she asked, unable to deny that she was interested. Just being there was a little surreal considering that she had never even been out of America before but she couldn’t deny that she liked seeing the place that Marcus and Caius both used to call home before they moved to Washington. There was so much about their lives that she didn’t know and she knew that she wanted to learn as much as she could while she had the chance. Soon enough they reached one of the towers and Talia’s eyes widened in surprise as Marcus opened the door to reveal a garden. It was unlike anything that she had ever seen before and she found herself looking around them as a smile formed on her face. “I never had you pegged as a gardener but I can see why you liked coming here, it really is beautiful,” she admitted as she moved further into the garden. “There are some flowers here I don’t recognise,” she added, not sure if they were native to the area or whether they were just incredibly rare. One thing she had come to realise was that for Marcus and Caius money wasn’t an issue so she knew that it could go either way.

Marcus was a bit nervous showing this place to Talia. Afterall it really was completely out of character for him to have a garden. Releasing her hand to wander on her own Marcus sheepishly walked behind her embarrassed that this was something he did. ”Honestly, I am just a surprised as you are. I was just lonely and bored. I wandered the palace one day and found this place. After that I took care to come here. Mostly because my wi…..” Marcus stopped half way through the sentence. He hated bringing up the subject of his wife especially since he had done well not to talk about her much as of recent.

Clearing his throat, though he didn’t need to, he went to where she was looking. Marcus thought her statement was quite funny as there was a reason for the flowers she didn’t recognize. ”There are quite a few reasons. Some are extinct, some are nearly extinct, others are just from Europe so it’s not a surprise you wouldn’t see them in America and then there is one that was created here in the garden.”he said as he glanced around at the flowers around them. It was true that money was no option for the Kings of Volterra so he was able to collect all the plants he wished to be here.

Talia’s life had been complicated from the day her parents had died. She had found herself thrown into care after that and a mix of awful foster parents and bad decisions on her part had seen her almost losing her life before she had truly started to live it. Had it not been for Marcus and Caius then she knew that she would have died a long time ago, they had both taken a chance on her when no one else ever had and she knew that she wouldn’t be the woman that she was without them. After Marcus saved her the last time she had known that she’d needed to turn her life around and she had done just that by becoming a paramedic. It had given her a purpose and a chance to do something good with the chance at life that she had been given and she was trying to make the most of it.

She had never been out of America before but she couldn’t deny that seeing another part of the world with Marcus felt right. She hadn’t planned on falling in love with him but it had happened anyway and she had learned a long time just how precious life was so she had known that she would be making a mistake if she tried to deny it. Instead she had learned to embrace it and as she glanced back at Marcus now and saw how sheepish he looked she couldn’t help but feel glad that she had done. She knew that he was a vampire and that only one moment of lost control could end her life but she never felt anything other than safe when she was with him. She wasn’t sure that he felt like he deserved to be loved but she had felt that way more than a few times herself over the years and she knew that it wasn’t true. Everyone deserved to have someone who loved them and she knew that she wasn’t going anywhere. “We all do surprising things when we’re feeling like that,” she said, her smile turning gentle as she closed the distance between them and let her hand rest against his cheek. “It’s ok, you can talk about her,” she assured him, knowing that the last thing she wanted was for him to feel like he had to hide anything from her. As Marcus spoke again, Talia found herself looking around them at the different flowers before a laugh escaped her lips. “Why am I not surprised that you would have a collection like that?” she teased. “They really are beautiful.”

Standing with the young woman, Marcus smiled as she spoke of surprising things. ”I suppose you are correct.” When she touched his cheek he raised a brow surprised and frowned at her words. She was completely fine with his talking about his late wife. Although this was fine, he was happy to hear her say that it hurt him to talk about her when he wanted to move forward with Talia. He would always love and miss his dear Didyme. He still wished he knew what really happened when she died. Although Aro had said what had happened Marcus had learned to not always trust the words of the man he called brother.

Just as the man was going to rest his hands on her waist to pull her close, she looked around and mentioned about the flowers. Chuckling he shrugged, ”When you can have anything you ever wanted you can have a collection of anything. Flowers included.” Pulling her close and gently touching her cheek he leaned in. ”Nothing compares to your beauty, my dear.” Marcus leaned in and kissed her lightly on the lips. A sweet yet passionate kiss. He genuinely loved the woman in his arms. She had saved him in so many ways and she could never imagine or understand what she did for him by just existing.

As Marcus agreed with her, Talia felt a small smile touch her lips. “I know what it’s like to feel lonely. Hopefully we can stop each other feeling that way again,” she said gently. For a long time she had felt like she was all alone in the world and she hadn’t known who to trust. With Marcus it was so different, when he had come back into her life this time he had stuck around. He had told her the truth about what he was and the two of them had grown even closer since then. She knew that she needed to be careful, Aro could decide to try and use her against Marcus and Caius if he found out about her and she was human which meant that she was technically food for them so she knew that she had to tread carefully. One thing she knew for sure was that she wasn’t going to let it stop her from being with Marcus. She loved him and even now she could still see the pain he felt at losing his wife even though it had happened so long ago. Talia knew that she would do anything to spare Marcus from going through that again and she knew that they would figure it out.

“Anything you ever wanted, huh?” Talia asked as she looked over at him. “What else have you got hidden away that I should know about?” she teased. There was still so much that she wanted to learn about Marcus, he had lived for thousands of years before they met so she knew that he’d lived so many lifetimes before they got together. She knew that there were things that he probably wouldn’t want to tell her but at the end of the day she knew that she would be happy with anything that he was comfortable with telling her. Talia’s smile returned as Marcus pulled her close and she leaned into his touch as he touched her cheek. Wrapping her arms around his neck, Talia kissed him back. “Very smooth,” she grinned as she kissed him again. “I love you, you know that?” It wasn’t the first time she had told him that but the words didn’t feel strange on her tongue any longer. She had never been in love before but she knew that she had found something incredibly special with Marcus and she couldn’t be happier about that. They hadn’t talked about the future, she was human while he was a vampire and she was already older than he was when he was turned but she knew that she just had to trust that they would find a way to make it work. She would be lying if she said that she hadn’t thought about asking him to turn her into a vampire but there were still a few things she wanted to do first and the truth was right now she wasn’t even sure if he wanted that future with her.

Marcus had lived so many years that eventually it had become mundane but when he first came across Talia's scent he felt his life shift and she became a very important figure in his life. The mundane changed and he saw life in a new light. The only problem was that as she grew and his love for her shifted from protector to love her his fear that something would happen to her grew. She was only a human and he feared he'd lose her one day. But he could lose her even if she was a vampire. He had after all lost his late wife even though she was a vampire. The thoughts were always there but he didn't want to burden her with them. "Well I suppose I do have other so-called collections. I just never saw them as collections. Shall we go to my chambers to see them?" Marcus was hesitant to ask since they were in his chambers and she had never been there before.

Resting his hands on her waist he smiled at her return kiss and just held her for a few more moments. He rested his head against hers when she spoke his favorite words. "I love you too, Talia. Very much so. I plan to tell you all the time. You may get tired of hearing it." he spoke softly to her knowing she could hear him. The love between them was different than anything Marcus has ever felt and he wanted to keep it all to themselves and to protect it with his entire existence.

Talia’s life had been incredibly short so far compared to Marcus’s but she had been through so much already. She still wasn’t sure what she had done to deserve having both Marcus and Caius looking out for her but she knew that she wouldn’t be here without both of them. They had saved her life more times than she cared to admit and it was only thanks to them that she had this chance to be with Marcus now. It wasn’t lost on her that he could have killed her so many times over but he hadn’t done. All he had ever done was look out for her and now he loved her. Talia had always wanted to find that once in a lifetime love and she knew that that was what she’d found with him. They had never talked about what the future was going to be like, Marcus was a vampire and he was thousands of years old while she was only a human. He had already lost his wife a long time ago and Talia knew that she didn’t want to be the reason why he endured any more heartache. She knew that nothing in life was guaranteed but she wanted to protect his heart as much as she could.

She would be lying if she said that she didn’t suddenly feel a little nervous as Marcus asked if she wanted to go to his chambers to see what he had. He had spent time with her at her place before but she had never seen a space that belonged to Marcus and she couldn’t deny that she was curious. Honestly, she wanted to be with him in every sense but she wasn’t even sure whether that was possible for him. There was still so much about vampires that she didn’t know but Talia hoped that now they were here in his home then perhaps she might get some answers. “Sure, I’d like that,” she said at last, a smile touching her lips as her eyes met his. As he said that she might get tired of hearing that he loved her, Talia couldn’t help but laugh. “I’ll never get tired of hearing that,” she assured him. “Come on, which way?” she asked, tracing her fingers down his arm before taking his hand in hers. The coldness had shocked her at first but she was used to it now and it really didn’t bother her at all. She knew that it was perhaps naive but it didn’t matter to her what Marcus was because at the end of the day he was still the man she loved.

Inviting her to his chambers made him nervous though he was not planning on doing anything by taking her there. Hearing her agree to go with him made him smile slightly. He took her hand and led her toward his chambers. "Wonderful. It may be a bit dusty as its been a bit since I have been in there and we don't have a complete cleaning service taking care of everything anymore." He held her hand as they walked mostly to keep her by his side but also to keep her safe. He grinned hearing her say she would never get tired of hearing that he loved her. "Good because I don't plan on ever stopping." He led her along the winding hallways and pointed out a couple statues along the way. There were a few statues that weren't completely clothed and he led her away from those. He didn't want her to see those. "My brothers have strange taste."he said in explanation of those statues. As they grew closer to his chambers he felt better as he had made sure long ago his brother's strange taste stayed away from his chambers. "There are a few rare paintings along the way to my chambers so we can stop to see them if you wish." Marcus continued leading her on their way as they passed a couple paintings. He had slowed their walk in case she wanted to check them out.

Being alone with Marcus wasn’t anything new but Talia knew that it was going to be different being alone with him in a space that belonged to him. Normally they spent time at her apartment and that was fine but Talia couldn’t deny that she was curious about what kind of things that Marcus liked. She knew that she probably shouldn’t feel nervous about it but she couldn’t help it. Marcus meant the world to her and they were being so careful but Talia wanted to take that next step with him. It wasn’t something they had ever talked about and she wasn’t even sure if it was possible but seeing his chambers felt like it would give her the chance to get to know another side of him and that was something that Talia wanted more than she had realised. She knew that Marcus loved her, there wasn’t a doubt in her mind about that, but she was doing her best to be respectful and not try and rush things. She knew that this had to be more difficult for Marcus than it was for her, after all he was a vampire and under normal circumstances she would be his blood source, and she knew that the last thing she wanted was for him to feel uncomfortable at any time. He had already left her before when she was younger, every time he’d saved her he had walked away leaving her to wonder if she had perhaps only imagined him there, and she knew that she didn’t want to give him any reason to walk away from her again.

“That’s okay, I understand,” Talia said, a smile forming on her face as she looked down at their joined hands. It was one thing to see Marcus around Forks but now they were in his home territory and it was good to see him a little more relaxed. “I’ll hold you to that,” she assured him as Marcus said he didn’t plan on stopping telling her that he loved her. It was something that she hadn’t heard for a long time before he came back into her life and she knew that she really would never get tired of hearing him say it. Looking at the statues as they passed by, Talia couldn’t imagine living somewhere like this. It was incredible but it was so different to anything she had ever seen before and she couldn’t help but wonder what Marcus’s home now was like. “I’m not sure I’d call it strange, the statues are amazing,” she admitted. She didn’t know much about art or what was good and what wasn’t but she was quickly starting to figure out what she liked and didn’t like and she knew that that was better than nothing. Turning to look at the paintings, Talia came to a stop in front of one of them. “The paintings are all beautiful, Marcus. Is this one you and your brothers?”

As they walked along the halls, Marcus was happy to be with the love of his life or un-life. Whatever you wanted to call his existence. There were a lot of things he wanted to do with her from traveling the world to being intimate but Marcus was worried she: 1 might not want to and 2 that she was afraid of what he could do. He would never hurt her or at least not on purpose. Marcus prided himself on being the more gentle of him and his brothers and he would just die if he harmed his Talia. Watching her as they walked and he just couldn't stop watching her as they walked. Would she want to take that step with him or would she not want to? Shaking the thought he continued walking along by the paintings and statues.

When Talia said she would hold him to saying 'I love you' Marcus grinned as he really didn't plan on stopping. Marcus chuckled hearing her talk about the statues he couldn't help it. "Well to each their own."he replied to her comment. He wasn't a fan of the statues especially with Talia near by as they weren't all clothed. He didn't want her seeing anyone else like that even if they were just statues now but they were modeled by someone at one time. They continued on but then she stopped and when she did he turned and looked at her. At her question about the paint he looked up and smirked. "It is us. Aro wanted us to pose for paintings as time passes. So every so often we pose for portraits such as this one. As well as getting them painted by famous painters through time."he said as they stood in front of one of the many paintings throughout the castle that he and his brothers are featured in.
