Jacob grew up hearing the stories of his tribe and thought they were just that, stories, until he phased. When Sam decided to kill Bella's baby Jacob left his pack to protect Bella and was soon joined by Leah and Seth. He is the mate of Renesmee, the father of their children and still the alpha of his pack.

Leah is the older sister of Seth, Bella and Beau. She can be fiercely protective especially when her family is in danger. She has yet to imprint and for years thought there was something wrong with her as she was the first female shapeshifter in the pack. She still dreams of starting a family of her own one day. Seth is the younger brother of Leah, step-brother of Bella and older half brother of Beau. He was the youngest person to shift for a while and was the first to follow Jacob when he left. Seth became close to the Cullens after spending time with them, especially Edward.

Embry is one of Jacob's best friends and it was originally assumed that his father was someone from the Makah tribe until he phased and it became apparent that his father had to be Billy Black, Quil Ateara IV or Joshua Uley as only they could have passed on that trait to him. Embry joined Jacob's pack after the Volturi's visit was over and has recently learned that Billy Black is his father.

Quil was born and raised in La Push and quickly became best friends with Jacob and Embry. He was dismayed when the two of the pulled away after they phased and was delighted when he too phased and became a party to the secret. Quil imprinted on Claire when she was only young and the two got together later, joining Jacob's pack only after Claire phased.

Born Claire Young to a Quileute father and Makah mother, she was brought up as a member of the Makah tribe. She is the cousin of Leah and Seth and the imprintee of Quil whom she imprinted on in return after phasing. Claire is also a mother thus dispelling the belief that female shapeshifters couldn't conceive. She was the second female ever to phase.

Quil is the son of Quil Ateara V and Claire Ateara. He is the first child to be born to two shapeshifter parents however everything else is open.
